Instituto Histórico e Geográfico da Cidade de São Vicente
The Instituto Histórico e Geográfico da Cidade de São Vicente, founded in 1959, occupies a grand 1890 mansion built for Baron Gustav Kurt Von Pritzelwitz — a German coffee-export manager — and designated as heritage in 1988. Its fourteen rooms house a collection of 126,000 pieces representing all Brazilian states: artistic maps, handicrafts, indigenous artifacts, fauna specimens, archaeological objects, and historical documents. The institute also maintains a municipal library of over 36,000 volumes and offers cultural activities including painting, music, photography, and theatre classes.
