Assiginack Museum Heritage Complex

Nestled in the village of Manitowaning on Manitoulin Island, the Assiginack Museum Heritage Complex was opened in 1955 as the island's first museum. Its grounds include a pioneer home, blacksmith shop, school house and barn, while the main building houses a collection of glassware, porcelain, pottery and artifacts tracing the lives of early settlers in the area. The museum also maintains extensive genealogical and archival files on local families, businesses and schools, including microfilm records, cemetery indexes and the Manitoulin Expositor archives.
