Chaffey's Lockmasters House Museum (Chaffey's Lock and Area Heritage Society)
The Lockmaster's House Museum, operated by the Chaffey's Lock and Area Heritage Society, is housed in a stone building constructed in 1844 as a substitute for a blockhouse to defend the Rideau Canal. Continuously occupied from 1844 until 1967 by only five lockmaster's families, the house was the social centre of Chaffey's Lock and once held the village's only telephone and post office. The museum opened in 1982 to mark the 150th anniversary of the Rideau Canal and presents exhibits on local history and the lockmasters who managed the canal lock, including the film "The Golden Years."
