Gore Bay Museum
The Gore Bay Museum, located in the former Manitoulin District Jail and jailer's residence (used until 1945), preserves the history of early settlers on Manitoulin Island, Ontario. The building is one of few remaining Ontario jails to retain many of its original features. Self-guiding thematic exhibits — including The Dentist Office, The General Store and a kitchen of labour-saving devices — bring historical times to life. A second branch, The Harbour Centre at 40 Water Street, opened in 2012 as a cultural hub. The museum received the Ontario Historical Society's Russell K. Cooper award in 2014.
