Chambly Canal National Historic Site

The Chambly Canal National Historic Site stretches nearly 20 kilometres along the Richelieu River between the municipalities of Chambly and Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec. Built in 1831–1843 as a commercial route around the river's rapids, the canal features 9 locks along with weirs, dams, dikes and bridges, and was designated a national historic site in 1929. Today it is a paradise for cyclists, boaters and hikers, offering 19 km of former towpath that can be walked, biked, navigated or snowshoed. The site is operated by Parks Canada.
