Centre de géologie et glaciologie

Founded in 1990 in Les Haudères in Switzerland's Val d'Hérens, the Centre de géologie et glaciologie is operated by the Maison des Alpes foundation. Its permanent exhibition explores general and local geology, soapstone, and glaciology and climate change, drawing on the valley's record of an ancient submarine ocean (with pillow lavas and copper deposits) and centuries of soapstone exploitation for stoves and oil lamps. Each year it presents a new temporary exhibition, complemented by lectures, excursions and educational programs for local schoolchildren.
