Alvar Aalto Museum is closed due to renovation until Summer 2023. Pioneers of modern architecture and design, Aino, Alvar and Elissa Aalto enjoyed exceptionally rich and varied career as architects and designers, both in Finland and abroad. The Alvar Aalto Museum is sited near the centre of Jyvaskyla and University of Jyvaskyla. Alvar Aalto’s design for the museum building was completed in 1973. It was characteristic of Aalto to treat each building as a complete work of art – right down to the furniture and light fittings. The Alvar Aalto Museum as part of Alvar Aalto Foundation is the nationally designated museum of Alvar Aalto’s heritage of architecture and design and maintains the remarkable drawings archive, photo archive and design collection. Alvar Aalto Museum is open for public in the new Aalto2 museum centre.
