Gold Prospector Museum

The Gold Prospector Museum (Kultamuseo) in Tankavaara, Finland is the only international museum in the world devoted to the past and present of gold panning and prospecting. Founded in 1973 by gold prospectors, it preserves the history of gold panning in Finnish Lapland from the 19th century onward, and is the home of both the Finnish and World Championships in gold panning. The site includes an outdoor museum with miners' cabins, machinery, and artefacts from the goldfields, open from early June to the end of September.
