Byzantine and Christian Museum

The Byzantine and Christian Museum in Athens is one of Greece's national museums and one of the most important museums in the world for the art and culture of the Byzantine and post-Byzantine periods. Its collections include more than 25,000 objects spanning the 3rd to the 20th century, primarily from the wider Greek, Asia Minor and Balkan regions. Housed at Villa Ilissia, the museum features a permanent exhibition arranged thematically — 'From the Ancient World to Byzantium', 'The World of Byzantium', '15th-century Spiritual and Artistic Movements', 'From Byzantium to the Modern Era' and 'Byzantium and Modern Art' — alongside temporary exhibitions, education programmes, a library, gardens, and the Ilissia café-restaurant.
