The museum was built in 1963-64 by the architects D. Fatouros and G. Triantaphyllides, professors of the Polytechnic School and the Aristoteleian University of Thessalonike. The plans for the extension of the building have already been made by the Polytechnic School of Thessalonike, under the direction of Prof. D. Fatouros. The museum contains the following collections: Collection of Prehistoric items, Finds from Neapolis, Finds from Amphipolis.
