Fábrica de Pios

Pios Maurílio Coelho, founded in 1903 in Espírito Santo, is a long-established workshop and small museum specialising in handcrafted bird-call whistles ("pios") for Brazilian native birds, particularly tinamous and other game birds. Visitors can see the manufacturing process in exotic and reclaimed woods, learn about bird-song physiology and the company's place in Brazilian cultural and birding history, and browse a shop offering complete pio collections, individual whistles and cajón percussion instruments.
