Instituto Histórico e Geográfico de Minas Gerais

The Instituto Histórico e Geográfico de Minas Gerais (IHGMG), founded on 15 August 1907, is the oldest private cultural institution in Minas Gerais state. Operating from the historic Casa de João Pinheiro in Belo Horizonte, the institute promotes research, publication, and consultancy in history, geography, anthropology, genealogy, and related fields. Its library holds around 29,000 volumes complemented by a hemeroteca (press archive), mapoteca, medallic collection, and videoteca, and is open for academic and student research.
