Ecomuseu do Quarteirão Cultural do Matadouro de Santa Cruz

The Ecomuseu do Quarteirão Cultural do Matadouro de Santa Cruz is a territorial museum encompassing all of the Santa Cruz neighbourhood at the western edge of Rio de Janeiro — an area of 125 km². Created in 1995 within the structure of the Municipal Secretariat of Culture, its core mission is to preserve and value the cultural and natural heritage of the neighbourhood. It runs educational, communication, preservation, documentation and research activities tied to the territory's history, inhabitants and ecosystem, with a strong emphasis on shared management between the public sector and local actors.
