The Alberta Beach and District Museum and Archives Society is located just off the shores of Lac Ste Anne, in the Village of Alberta Beach, only one block from the main beach swimming area. With a park-like setting, the museum provides a tourist attraction for area residents and tourists alike, and the heritage village tells the story of the founding settlement and development of the community and surrounding area. We collect, preserve, research, exhibit, and interpret those historical artifacts and buildings from the beach area. The heritage village site is an ongoing project which is nearing completion with the acquisition and restoration of the train station. This was important to our site as the Canadian Northern Railroad was instrumental in the development of the area.
Permanent Collections and Exhibits
Within the heritage village site we currently have acquired and completely restored the original one-room grasmere school, the teacherage, a homesteaders log cabin, a summer cottage, the Anglican chapel, Alberta Beach first aid station, jail, train station, and the Adams farm house, which was built in the 1930s. Each one of our buildings contains artifacts from area residents collected since we were incorporated in 1976.
ProgramsEach year we host local school tours grades 1 - 8, seniors tours, and host school reunions. During our annual Polynesian days put on every year on the long weekend of August, we put in a float promoting the museum as well as host an event such a hula contests within our facility. We have a table set up in the farmers market in Alberta Beach every Sunday promoting the museum and selling our books.
