Army Museum of Alberta

Digital storyboards, historic medals, lifelike dioramas and even Skinner the talking horse tell the story in the Army Museum of Alberta.

Exhibits focus on Alberta's land force heritage from the 1885 Northwest Rebellion to today's mission in Afghanistan. Some of the military themes discussed throughout the museum include:

• the roles of the medical services
• the artillery
• chaplains
• First Nations and the army 
• women in the army

Also associated with the museum is The Founders’ Gallery, which hosts art and heritage exhibits that change regularly. These include traveling exhibits from institutions such as the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa. Visit The Army Museum of Alberta website for a complete listing of upcoming exhibits.

The Army Museum of Alberta is one of seven accredited Canadian Forces museums located at The Military Museums in Calgary.

• Early militia period (1905-1914) including units such as the 15th Light Horse
• First World War represented by the 49th Battalion

• Korean War represented by the Chaplains Branch
• Peacekeeping
• Postwar army in Alberta represented by the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, 1 Field Ambulance, the Royal Canadian Signal Corps, and 41 Brigade.
• Afghanistan

30 or 45 minute guided tours for Grades 1-12 as part of school program package; interaction with many of the overall programs developed for The Military Museums, but with specific relevance to Evolution of Peacekeeping, Carving Vimy Ridge, Women in War and Aboriginal Veterans: Calling My Spirits Home.
