Museo Civico di Taverna Calabra

Museo Civico di Taverna is dedicated to Mattia Preti (1613–1699), the Baroque painter known as "Il Cavalier Calabrese," who was born in Taverna, a small town in the Calabrian Apennines. The museum holds the largest collection of works by Preti and his elder brother Gregorio Preti in Calabria, spanning altarpieces, canvases, and devotional paintings from local churches. Mattia Preti was one of the leading figures of 17th-century European Baroque painting, working across Italy and Malta, and the museum traces his development from his Calabrian roots to his mature international career. The collection is complemented by works by other artists associated with the Preti circle and by contemporary art related to Taverna's cultural heritage.
