Museo Diocesano e del Codex di Rossano
Museo Diocesano e del Codex di Rossano is built around one of the most important manuscripts in the world: the Codex Purpureus Rossanensis, a 6th-century Byzantine illuminated New Testament written in silver and gold ink on purple-dyed parchment. It is among the oldest surviving illustrated manuscripts of the Gospels, containing the books of Matthew and Mark along with a letter of Eusebius, and was inscribed on the UNESCO Memory of the World Register in 2015. The manuscript has been preserved in the Cathedral of Rossano (now Corigliano-Rossano) in Calabria for over fourteen centuries. The broader museum collection presents the sacred art and archival heritage of the Archdiocese of Rossano-Cariati, including liturgical objects, vestments, and devotional paintings, alongside digital displays and a virtual tour that bring the Codex's miniatures to wider audiences.
