Hawthorne Cottage National Historic Site
Hawthorne Cottage National Historic Site, in the fishing community of Brigus, Newfoundland, was the home of legendary Arctic explorer Captain Robert Abram Bartlett from 1885 to 1946. Originally built in 1830 by merchant John Leamon in Cochrandale, the picturesque one-and-a-half storey wooden cottage was hauled overland on log rollers to Brigus in 1833-34. Operated by Parks Canada, the site displays furnishings and personal belongings of the Leamon and Bartlett families, illustrating outport family life and Bartlett's polar adventures.
