Heart's Content Cable Station Provincial Historic Site

Heart's Content Cable Station Provincial Historic Site commemorates the place where the first successful permanent transatlantic telegraph cable was landed on 27 July 1866, reducing communication time across the Atlantic from weeks to minutes. The site consists of an 1875 office building and a 1918 extension, with exhibits exploring the history of telegraphy and the role Heart's Content played in this revolutionary industry until the station's closure in 1965. Designated a Provincial Historic Site in 1974, the museum displays the original cable machinery and interpretive displays, and the site has been nominated for UNESCO World Heritage status alongside its sister station at Valentia Island, Ireland.
