L'Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site

L'Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site, a UNESCO World Heritage Site at the tip of Newfoundland's Great Northern Peninsula, contains the only known Norse settlement in the Americas. Over 1,000 years ago, Viking expeditions from Greenland built a small encampment of timber-and-sod structures here, predating Columbus by five centuries. Visitors can explore the reconstructed sod buildings, walk the archaeological remains, and engage with costumed interpreters against a stunning backdrop of rugged cliffs, bog, and coastline.
