Le Panoptique d'Autun, musée Rolin
Le Musée Rolin (Le Panoptique d'Autun) in Autun, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, is one of France's most important regional museums, housed in a 15th-century mansion built for Nicolas Rolin, Chancellor of Burgundy. The collection spans prehistoric artefacts from the Chassey camp, outstanding Celtic and Gallo-Roman objects from the ancient oppidum of Bibracte (Mont Beuvray), Roman sculptures and reliefs, and an exceptional fine arts collection including the precious "Nativity" by the Master of Moulins, Flemish 17th-century paintings, and 19th-century French works. The museum's breadth — from prehistory to the 20th century — makes it a superb introduction to Burgundy's layered history.
