Maison du Verre et du Cristal

The Centre International d'Art Verrier (CIAV) in Meisenthal is a public institution dedicated to preserving and continuing the extraordinary glass-making heritage of the Vosges du Nord. The Verrerie de Meisenthal, founded in 1704, became a legendary site when Emile Gallé used it as a laboratory between 1867 and 1894, pioneering the technical and artistic innovations that made Meisenthal the birthplace of Art Nouveau glassmaking. After the factory closed on 31 December 1969, a revival movement eventually led to the creation of the CIAV in 1992. Today the centre bridges traditional craft and contemporary creation, hosting master glassblowers alongside designers and artists, and produces iconic objects including the famous Meisenthal Christmas baubles. It welcomes the public for guided tours, demonstrations, and exhibitions.
