Centre d'Histoire de la Résistance et de la Déportation
The Centre d'Histoire de la Résistance et de la Déportation (CHRD) retraces the history of the Second World War, particularly in Lyon. Symbolically housed in the former headquarters of the Gestapo where Klaus Barbie operated, the museum was inaugurated on October 15, 1992 in the presence of Jacques Chaban-Delmas and Elie Wiesel. Its collection comprises objects bequeathed by former Resistance members and deportees, photographs, archive documents and audiovisual testimonies offering insight into daily life under Occupation, including more than 700 filmed testimonies recorded in the 1990s. The current permanent exhibition, "Lyon in the war, 1939-1945," opened on November 16, 2012, and the centre prioritises young visitors in its admission and programming policy.
