Itsanitaq Museum

The Itsanitaq Museum (formerly the Eskimo Museum) in Churchill, Manitoba, is dedicated to Inuit culture and Arctic heritage. Founded in 1944 by Catholic missionaries — Bishop Marc Lacroix OMI together with Fathers Richard Ferron and Jean Philippe — the museum began as a small display of walrus-tusk carvings. Its collection now contains around 1,300 pieces of Inuit sculpture and artefacts, considered among the finest and oldest in the world, spanning Pre-Dorset (c. 1700 BC), Dorset, Thule and modern Inuit periods.
