Museo de La Plata

The Museo de La Plata is one of South America's greatest natural history museums, founded in 1884 by explorer Francisco Pascasio Moreno and housed in a magnificent neoclassical building in the Paseo del Bosque, La Plata. Its collections of over three million objects span palaeontology (including fossil dinosaurs and Patagonian megafauna), zoology, mineralogy, botany, anthropology, archaeology, and Latin American history. The museum holds outstanding collections of indigenous material culture, Andean mummies, and a renowned archaeological collection from across the Americas. As part of the National University of La Plata, the Museo de La Plata conducts active scientific research alongside its educational and public programmes, including guided visits, self-guided audio tours, and virtual 360° tours.
