Iglesia y convento de San Francisco

The Iglesia y Convento de San Francisco forms part of the Parque Arqueológico Santa Fe La Vieja in Cayastá, Santa Fe Province, Argentina. This 69-hectare archaeological park preserves the remains of the original city of Santa Fe, founded in 1573 by Juan de Garay and abandoned in 1660 when the population relocated due to flooding. The ruins of the church and convent of San Francisco include replicas of notable colonial-era burials, among them the remains of governor Hernandarias de Saavedra. The park offers a rare window into early Spanish colonial life in the Río de la Plata region.
