Museo de la Cárcova

The Museo de la Cárcova — formally the Museo de Calcos y Escultura Comparada "Ernesto de la Cárcova" — is one of Buenos Aires' most unusual and remarkable museums. Part of the Universidad Nacional de las Artes and located in Puerto Madero, it houses a collection of full-scale plaster cast reproductions of world-famous sculptures assembled in the early twentieth century for the teaching of fine arts. Among its extraordinary casts are reproductions of the Venus de Milo, the Winged Victory of Samothrace, Michelangelo's David, works by Rodin, and many other canonical masterpieces of Western sculpture. The museum offers visitors an unparalleled encounter with the history of sculpture from antiquity to modernity in a single, intimate space.
