Museo Histórico Nacional del Cabildo de Buenos Aires

The Museo Histórico Nacional del Cabildo de Buenos Aires y de la Revolución de Mayo occupies the Cabildo, the colonial town-hall building on the Plaza de Mayo that served as the seat of government during the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata. It was here, on 25 May 1810, that the open cabildo abierto assembled and resolved to depose the Spanish Viceroy, marking the founding moment of Argentine independence. The museum houses a permanent collection of paintings, furniture, maps, documents, arms, and decorative objects from the colonial and early independence periods, tracing the political, social, and cultural history of Buenos Aires from its founding through the revolution. It also hosts temporary exhibitions and educational programmes, and offers a virtual 360° tour of its galleries.
