Museo Marítimo de Ushuaia
The Museo Marítimo de Ushuaia is a complex of four museums housed in the historic former prison of Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. The complex comprises the Maritime Museum of Ushuaia, the Museum of the Prison of Ushuaia (Museo del Presidio), the Antarctic Museum of Ushuaia, and the Marine Art Museum of Ushuaia. Together they explore the maritime, penal, Antarctic, and artistic history of this remote city at the southern tip of South America. The former prison, which operated from 1902 to 1947 and held some of Argentina's most notorious criminals, provides a dramatic backdrop for displays on navigation, polar exploration, and the history of Tierra del Fuego. The complex also includes a bookshop, audioguides, an art gallery, a library, and an active educational department.
