Museo Nacional de Arte Decorativo

The Museo Nacional de Arte Decorativo (MNAD) in Buenos Aires is housed in the sumptuous Palacio Errázuriz Alvear, a Beaux-Arts mansion built in 1911 for the wealthy Chilean-Argentine diplomat Matías Errázuriz Ortúzar and his wife Josefina de Alvear. The palace and its entire contents were donated to the Argentine state in 1937, and the museum opened to the public in 1938. The collection encompasses European and Argentine decorative arts from the sixteenth to the twentieth centuries, including furniture, tapestries, porcelain, silverware, paintings, sculptures, and objets d'art. The museum also maintains a dedicated library and hosts temporary exhibitions, cultural activities, and an annual yearbook documenting the year's events.
