Circus- und Clownmuseum Wien

The Circus- und Clownmuseum Wien grew out of the private collection of Viennese writer and editor Heino Seitler, who first opened a clown museum to the public in 1927. The museum took its present institutional form in 1968 as the "Österreichisches Circus- und Clownmuseum" and is today located in Vienna's 2nd district next to the Wiener Prater. Around 13,000 visitors a year tour its props, posters, engravings and sequined costumes from once world-famous artists, clowns, magicians and illusionists, while the associated cultural society runs lectures, cabaret evenings, children's events and a museum library.
