Haus der Gmündner Zeitgeschichte

The Haus der Gmünder Zeitgeschichte presents the history of the Gmünd refugee camp, one of the largest camps in the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, alongside the development of the border region and the "Iron Curtain". Exhibitions illustrate life in 20th-century Gmünd through historical material, including footage from Filmarchiv Austria and ORF. The museum also commemorates the more than 30,000 refugees who died there during the First World War.
