Benediktinerstift Kremsmünster - Kunstsammlungen und Sternwarte

The Sternwarte (Observatory) and Natural History Museum of Stift Kremsmünster has operated since 1758 in what is considered Europe's oldest high-rise, a baroque building constructed between 1749 and 1758. Across its seven floors visitors can explore the weather station (operating since 1762), fossils and a cave bear, the mineralogical cabinet, the "High Hall" with global wildlife including a hummingbird collection, anthropology including an Egyptian mummy, the physics cabinet, the astronomical hall featuring telescopes and Kepler's sextant, a chapel, and a panoramic observation terrace. The observatory holds Austria's largest private collection of globes and is officially registered with the International Astronomical Union under code IAU-539.
