Keltenmuseum Hallein

Keltenmuseum Hallein is one of Austria's leading Celtic museums, dedicated to the culture and history of the Celts in the eastern Alpine region. Its centerpiece is a remarkable collection of finds from the Dürrnberg salt mines near Hallein, one of the most important Celtic archaeological sites in central Europe, worked continuously from around 600 BC to Roman times. The museum presents richly decorated grave goods, iron-age tools, jewellery, and the famous Dürrnberg beaked flagon among thousands of artefacts. A separate memorial section commemorates Franz Xaver Gruber, composer of "Silent Night", who lived in Hallein.
