Auer von Welsbach-Museum

The Auer von Welsbach Museum in Althofen, Carinthia, presents the life and work of Carl Auer von Welsbach (1858-1929), the chemist and entrepreneur who discovered the elements neodymium, praseodymium, ytterbium and lutetium and invented the incandescent gas mantle and the metal-filament lamp. Unique exhibits include the scientist's original laboratory furnishings, a collection of early metal-filament lamps and rare lighters, and early gas-light fittings.
