Shibusawa Memorial Museum

The Shibusawa Memorial Museum is dedicated to the life of Shibusawa Eiichi (1840-1931), a leader in business and finance who fostered the development of the modern Japanese economy. Throughout his life he advocated for the “harmony of morality and economy” and played an important role in the fields of social welfare, education, and private-sector diplomacy as well. Adjoining the museum building is the Old Shibusawa Garden with two Taisho era (1912-26) buildings from the original Shibusawa estate. These buildings, the Bankoro and the Seien Bunko, are designated Important Cultural Properties.
