Museo Italiano

The Museo Italiano is the historical museum of CO.AS.IT. (Community Assistance for Italians), located in Carlton, Melbourne, Australia — the heart of the city's historic Italian community. Run by the Italian Historical Society, the museum and its archive document the migration experience of Italian Australians from the late nineteenth century to the present, housing an extensive collection of photographs, documents, personal artefacts, oral histories, and publications. It offers guided and self-guided tours, family history research services, and a searchable online collection, and serves as the principal institution for the preservation of Italian-Australian cultural heritage in Victoria. The Italian Carlton precinct, where the museum is situated, is itself a place of deep significance to successive generations of Italian migrants.
