Interpretation Centre (Duck Reach Power Station)
The Duck Reach Power Station Interpretation Centre tells the story of Australia's first publicly-owned hydroelectric power scheme, completed in 1895 to supply electricity to the city of Launceston. Set within the dramatic Cataract Gorge, the centre preserves the historic turbine hall and engine room, explaining how this pioneering hydro plant transformed Launceston into one of the first electrified cities in the southern hemisphere.
