Ayers House - National Trust

Ayers House is one of Adelaide's most significant 19th-century heritage buildings, built by politician, financier and businessman Sir Henry Ayers between 1850 and 1870 to a design largely attributed to colonial architect George Strickland Kingston. Premier of South Australia seven times, Ayers used the house as his family home. The property has since served as the short-lived 'Austral Garden' entertainment venue, the first headquarters of the RSL and a nurses' residence and school for the Royal Adelaide Hospital, before being opened to the public as a restaurant and museum in 1973. Following the Ayers House Act 2024 the house is once again cared for by the National Trust of South Australia.
