Chiltern Athenaeum Museum

Chiltern Athenaeum Museum is a volunteer-run local history museum housed in the original 1866 brick building that served as Chiltern's Council Chambers, Town Hall and Library. Founded by community members after the library moved out in 1970, it preserves a working collection of Goldfields-era books in their original setting. Exhibits cover Chiltern's gold rush past, the WWI Honour Roll, and the lives of notable locals including author Henry Handel Richardson, prime minister Sir John McEwen and gum-leaf painter Alfred William Eustace.
