Matsuoka Museum of Art

The Matsuoka Museum of Art is a private art museum in Shirokanedai, Tokyo, founded to share the extraordinary collection of businessman Matsuoka Seijiro (1894–1989). Opened at its current location in April 2000, the museum showcases a wide-ranging collection spanning ancient Egyptian artefacts and anthropoid coffins, ancient Orient art from Rome, Greece, Mesopotamia and Persia, East Asian ceramics and paintings, and modern European sculpture. Matsuoka Seijiro's lifelong belief that "classic artworks remain for eternity" drove him to assemble one of Japan's most diverse private collections for public enjoyment. The museum features a gift shop and regular special exhibitions.
