Bendigo Joss House Temple

The Bendigo Joss House Temple is a heritage-listed Chinese temple opened in 1871, one of seven Chinese temples originally built in the area to serve the large Chinese population on the Bendigo goldfield. The main temple is dedicated to Guan-Di (Kwan Gong), the god of war and prosperity, and the building was constructed using locally handmade bricks painted red - symbolising happiness, strength and vitality. It is one of the few remaining buildings of its type in Australia and is managed by Bendigo Heritage.
