Autrique House
Maison Autrique in Brussels is the first striking private house designed by Victor Horta, completed in 1893, and is considered an important milestone in the development of Art Nouveau. Commissioned by Horta's friend Eugene Autrique, an engineer at Solvay, the building explores architectural ideas that would later become hallmarks of Horta's style \u2014 integration with the street, wall decorations of varying thickness, the coexistence of symmetrical and asymmetrical forms and his revolutionary use of metal. The house has been exemplarily restored and is open to the public.
