Opened in 1992 as a museum, it is currently the highest castle-style building in Japan overlooking Katsuyama City and the ancient precincts of Heisenji Temple, a national historic site. Heirlooms of feudal families (suits of armor, textiles) and embroidery from the Qing Dynasty of China are regularly on display, and our special exhibitions include folding screens depicting Edo period battles and works of calligraphers who were active from the Meiji to Showa periods. Also, as visitors descend to the second floor, they can enjoy the large murals by Toshimitsu Imai, a famous Art Informel painter.
