Kagoshima Prefectural Museum of Culture REIMEIKAN

Reimeikan, the Kagoshima Prefecutural Museum of Culture, was founded in 1968  to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the Meiji Period. It was opened in 1983 and holds a vast collection of cultural assets. The permanent exhibition introduces the history, folklore, and art of Kagoshima. Reimeikan is situated at the former site of Kagoshima (Tsurumaru) Castle. Historical remains such as the moat, the stone walls and a stone bridge are still visible today. They are protected as Prefectural Cultural Assets.
