Capuchin Crypt in Brno

The Capuchin Crypt in Brno (Kapucínská hrobka v Brně) lies beneath the Church of the Finding of the Holy Cross at the working Capuchin friary in Brno, Czech Republic. From 1656 to 1784 the crypt was used to bury Capuchin friars and benefactors of the order; an ingenious ventilation system caused the bodies to mummify naturally. Today the crypt is open to visitors and tells the unusual story of the Capuchin order, the simple form of Capuchin burial and famous interments such as the Pandour commander Franz von der Trenck.
