Ernst-Haeckel-Haus

The Ernst-Haeckel-Haus, also known as Villa Medusa, was the residence of zoologist Ernst Haeckel and now houses the Chair for the History and Philosophy of Science of the Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena. It functions as both a museum on Haeckel's life and work and a research institution with archives, library and exhibition spaces. The Italianate villa, built 1882–1883, includes decorative jellyfish motifs and a permanent exhibition on Haeckel's research, plus changing exhibitions and public guided tours.
