Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Museum

The Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Museum in Garz is the oldest museum on the island of Rügen, opened in 1937 in a purpose-built home designed by Berlin architect Erhard Schmidt. Founded by local teacher and Rügen researcher Ernst Wiedemann, the museum is dedicated to the writer and political publicist Ernst Moritz Arndt (1769–1860), who was born in nearby Groß Schoritz. Today reconceived as a museum for literature and history, it presents a collection of Arndtiana, regional literature from the 18th–20th centuries, town and everyday-life history, and archaeological finds, alongside changing exhibitions and a 2015 modern extension.
