It Damshus

It Damshûs is an open-air museum in Nij Beets, Friesland, the Netherlands, dedicated to the history of peat extraction and the harsh living and working conditions of peat workers and their families in the wetland regions of Friesland. The museum grounds include historic buildings, boat tours, and cultural events including the annual Turfroute season opener. The Sudergemaal (pumping station) is a sister site offering additional exhibitions and programming. The museum is open seasonally from May 1.
