The Philipp-Reis-Haus in Friedrichsdorf commemorates Philipp Reis (1834–1874), the German inventor who created one of the first devices capable of transmitting sound electrically — a forerunner of the telephone. The museum explores his life and scientific achievements in the town known as the "Philipp-Reis-Stadt".
